God Bless Africa

In the second of my two recent poems on Africa, I express the inextricable identification of myself with Africa.

Called "God Bless Africa", it begins as follows:

God bless Africa
For she is the seed of humanity
And I am the future through her
When her roots sprout, I am born
And as her leaves unfurl, I grow
When her branches spread, I learn
And as her flowers bud, I bloom

Prayer for Africa

Having just returned from South Africa, I was moved to write two poems on Africa. South Africa once again seems in the grip of Afro-pessimism, and not entirely without justification, following bouts of xenophobic violence, a power crisis and continued crime. In these poems, I try to acknowledge the difficulties faced by the continent, and yet resolve to respond positively.

The first poem, Prayer for Africa, begins as follows:

Dear God
For the love of Africa
Hear my prayer

Africa is the cradle of your creation
Therefore, grant me patience
To nurture growth and goodness
In this great land

R&R in Swellendam (Photos)

I spent a few relaxing days at Mountain View Cottage, the B&B my parents run in Swellendam, South Africa. One of my favourite spots is a waterfall in the Langeberg mountains. Here are a few pics:

The Evolution of Corporate Sustainability & Responsibility

On Thursday (24 July), I gave a talk in Johannesburg (hosted by KPMG Sustainability Services) on "The Evolution of Corporate Sustainability & Responsibility".

My key message was that, as with Web 2.0, the success of CSR 2.0 (the new era of corporate sustainability and responsibility) will depend on:

CONNECTEDNESS

SCALABILITY and

RESPONSIVENESS

The event also marked the Africa launch of "The A to Z of Corporate Social Responsibility". Deon Binneman posted the following blog about the launch:
