Doubt
This weekend, I've been thinking about doubt. I'm struck by how often we think of doubt as negative and certainty as positive. And yet I'm not sure that I agree. Isn't doubt one of the things that protects us - from disappointment, from danger, from pain? And isn't certainty one of the things that blind us - to growth, to diversity, to reality? Here is an extract from a piece I wrote today as part of my Everyday Inspiration series:
Doubt is the path to awareness, while certainty is the road to naivety. Doubt is like a mountaineer with a walking stick, which she uses to test the ground ahead before stepping into the unknown. Certainty is like a blind man without a stick, stumbling forward in the misguided belief that all obstacles will be cleared from his path.

Partnership
One of the hats I wear is as internal examiner for Cambridge University's Postgraduate Certificate in Cross-Sector Partnerships. This week, I've been reviewing assignments, which got me to thinking about the concept of partnership. What does it mean to be "in partnership" with someone? What makes partnerships succeed or fail? I've captured my musings in prose as part of my Everyday Inspiration series (see www.waynevisser.com/prose.htm, note, I'm still uploading the backlog). Here's an extract:
Despite its fragility, partnership is the rule of life, rather than the exception. The ocean partners with the sun to form rain. The sun partners with the rain to grow plants. Humans partner with nature and each other to form homesteads and communities, organisations and industries, nations and civilizations. On and on it goes. In short, life on earth is a grand experiment in partnership.

Fog
What a strange and eerie delight to wake up yesterday and find Cambridge blanketed in a dense cloud of fog. I was so enchanted that I wandered around in the icy hazy snapping photos at every turn. I'm inserting one here, and I'll post a set on my website soon.

I also wrote a poem called - can you guess? - Fog. Here's an extract:
I walked through the park Fascinated As murky phantasms emerged And melted into thick air Like wraiths in the netherworld Gliding between lost and found Hovering around murky lampposts Searching for signs To uncertainty

Watch this space
I've spent the past month and a half revamping my website - www.waynevisser.com. It needed a new look - something a bit more creative and dramatic (I hope you like it!?). Also, a slightly modified design, so that depending on whether you are looking for Information or Inspiration, you can navigate accordingly. I will be actively populating it with more pages and downloads over the coming months, and flagging new additions on this blog, so watch this space.
